Eleven sites have now been identified for the construction of hydro-electric plants on the White Nile and other rivers in the South. This, according to the Government of Southern Sudan's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. An official from the ministry, Isaac Liabwel, said being able to use the Nile is a must for the development of South Sudan, which had no proper electricity network. Liabwel said only a few counties have access to electricity through the use of expensive generators. He added these new sites would be able to provide about 2,000 megawatt-hours of power per day.
